OUR STORY
Oakwood Valuation Group, LLC is a Raleigh-based firm that specializes in eminent domain appraisals. The principal, C. Richard Birkholz, founded the firm in June of 2012 and holds a Certified General Appraisal License in North Carolina (Certificate A4939). Mr. Birkholz has considerable experience in the arena of eminent domain appraisal throughout the southeast having worked on railroad corridors, power line easements, and highway projects for both condemning authorities and private property owners.
After graduating from the University of Florida, Mr. Birkholz began his real estate appraisal career in 1997 at his Father’s firm in Bradenton, Florida. In 2001, Mr. Birkholz accepted a staff appraisal position with the Raleigh office of the NCDOT and has been working in the area of eminent domain valuation ever since.
Mr. Birkholz’s appraising and consulting experience has been varied from the appraisal of small residential and income-producing properties to large institutional properties. Mr. Birkholz has also been qualified as an expert witness throughout North Carolina and Virginia successfully defending appraisals prepared for eminent domain purposes. Additionally, Mr. Birkholz is currently a practicing affiliate through the Appraisal Institute, the appraisal industry’s preeminent professional organization.

Widening and relocation of Tryon Road in Raleigh, NC. Our firm completed the appraisals for the entire project. Property types included a mixture between vacant and improved single-family residential properties as well as complex commercial properties.
Widening of Country Club Road in Rocky Mount, NC. Similar to above, our firm completed the appraisals for the entire project. Property types included a mixture between vacant and improved single-family residential properties as well as complex commercial properties.
Widening of Alston Avenue (NC Highway 55) through Durham, NC. The project involved the valuation of all types of real estate through a densely developed area of Durham.
